Some Hierarchies for the Communication Complexity Measures of Cooperating Grammar Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abst rac t . We investigate here the descriptional and the computational complexity of parallel communicating grammar systems (PCGS). A new descriptional complexity measure the communication structure of the PCGS is introduced and related to the communication complexity (the number of communications). Several hierarchies resulting from these complexity measures and some relations between the measures are established. The results are obtained due to the development of two lower-bound proof techniques for PCGS. The first one is a generalization of pumping lemmas from formal language theory and the second one reduces the lower bound problem for some PCGS to the proof of lower bounds on the number of reversals of certain sequential computing models.

متن کاملUniversal Grammar and Chaos/Complexity Theory: Where Do They Meet And Where Do They Cross?
Abstract The present study begins by sketching "Chaos/Complexity Theory" (C/CT) and its applica-tion to the nature of language and language acquisition. Then, the theory of "Universal Grammar" (UG) is explicated with an eye to C/CT. Firstly, it is revealed that CCT may or may not be allied with a theory of language acquisition that takes UG as the initial state of language acquisition for ...
متن کاملSequential Versus Parallel Grammar Formalisms with Respect to Measures of Descriptional Complexity
For tabled Lindenmayer systems and their languages, the degree of synchronization and the degree of nondeterminism are well investigated measures of descriptional complexity. In this paper the sequential counterparts of tabled Lindenmayer systems, namely cooperating distributed grammar systems and their pure variant (working in the so called t-mode of derivation) are treated with respect to the...
متن کاملKnowledge of Grammar, Oral Communication Strategies, and oral Fluency: A Study of Iranian EFL Learners
This study tested the impact of implicit and explicit knowledge of grammar on learners’ use of oral communication strategies (OCSs) and the interface of OCSs and oral fluency. The study was performed on 24 male and 36 female Iranian university students of English Translation studying at Payame Nour Universities of Lar, Khonj, and Evaz chosen based on availability and ease of access. The data we...
متن کاملConnections, Communication and Collaboration in Healthcare’s Complex Adaptive Systems; Comment on “Using Complexity and Network Concepts to Inform Healthcare Knowledge Translation”
A more sophisticated understanding of the unpredictable, disorderly and unstable aspects of healthcare organisations is developing in the knowledge translation (KT) literature. In an article published in this journal, Kitson et al introduced a new model for KT in healthcare based on complexity theory. The Knowledge Translation Complexity Network Model (KTCNM) provides a fresh perspective by mak...
